Stage 2

This stage is characterized by productive lands engaged in a process of commodification and intensification of agriculture. A mix of rice and maize is observed in the picture below. The main system is still based on shifting cultivation but the duration of the fallow period is gradually shortened due to population pressure (demographic growth). In the long run, this system does not allow for a complete regeneration of the soil fertility.
