Extension of Conservation Agriculture in Madagascar

Conclusion

Conservation Agriculture is based upon the three principals of minimal soil disturbance, permanent soil cover and the use of crop rotations. These three principles can improve the soil fertility and give higher yields. In a sub-Saharan context the farmers find it hard to create a mulch of the field residues, since the residues are used as fodder to the livestock, building material and as fuel. CA methods requires a big shift in farming practices, why it is crucial to not only concentrate extension projects to a farm level, but also at a regional level.
